People are using the cloud more than ever before to store everything from business documents to pictures of their family and friends. In 2012 Gartner predicted people would abandon offline PC work and switch entirely over to using the cloud. And while people still store information offline, the transition to cloud computing is happening, as forecasted, very fast.

If you are one of the many thinking of switching over to using the cloud, it’s important to understand how to keep your account and data secure.

One way to do that is to always back up data, such as on a CD, flash drive or second cloud. Never store sensitive information such as passwords, pin numbers or bank account information in the cloud. And finally, make sure your cloud service allows you to encrypt data. This is an extra layer of security to ward off potential hackers.
